In this capacity, Mr. Walsh draws upon both his academic background and personal experiences to advocate for the well-being of veterans.

Before his current role, Mr. Walsh was an advanced medical support assistant at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in Reno, Nevada, from 2016 to 2021. During this period, he played a vital role in coordinating patient care and administrative processes, contributing to the efficiency and responsiveness of the department’s health care services. Mr. Walsh’s earlier tenure as a medical support assistant at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in Palo Alto, California, between 2014 and 2016, also significantly sharpened his skills in patient interaction and health care administration.

Mr. Walsh began his federal service as a pathways intern (student trainee) at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in Palo Alto from 2013 to 2014, where he gained foundational experience in government operations and veteran support programs. Before entering public service, he worked as a production specialist at Cal-West Industrial Coatings for five years, beginning in 2008, overseeing manufacturing processes and ensuring product quality for industrial coatings.

During the earlier part of his career, Mr. Walsh spent over 25 years as a senior operating clerk with Pacific Gas and Electric Company between 1976 and 2003. This significant tenure included managing operational logistics and administrative functions for the company, specializing in underground facility installations.

Mr. Walsh’s dedication to service is rooted in his military background. He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Air Force from 1971 to 1974 and is recognized as a Vietnam veteran. This formative experience continues to inform his advocacy for veterans’ issues.

Highly educated, Mr. Walsh obtained a Bachelor of Arts in health care administration from Ashford University in San Diego, awarded in 2011. He soon acquired a Master of Arts in health care administration and human resource management in 2013 and a Master of Business Administration with a minor in human resources management in 2015, both from Ashford University in San Diego. Mr. Walsh’s graduate research included a thesis on veteran suicide, which heightened his awareness of mental health challenges within the veteran community and reinforced his commitment to providing mentorship and support.

Mr. Walsh maintains ongoing involvement with organizations such as the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the National Rifle Association, the American Legion and the American College of Healthcare Executives. He also notably contributed as a volunteer with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs from 2007 to 2013, further demonstrating his dedication to public service.

Throughout his career, Mr. Walsh has been influenced by his faith and daily routines, crediting these practices for sustaining his resilience and sense of purpose. A significant milestone in his life has been maintaining sobriety for nearly two decades, an accomplishment that stands among his proudest. This personal victory was catalyzed by an encounter with a representative from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs who offered guidance during a critical moment in Mr. Walsh’s recovery journey. The support he received not only transformed his life but also deepened his resolve to assist others facing similar challenges.

Mr. Walsh attributes much of his success to spiritual guidance and the pivotal intervention that set him on a path toward recovery. Looking ahead, he continues to seek opportunities to make a positive impact on the lives of those who have served their country. He also remains committed to supporting veterans through mentorship and advocacy efforts aimed at addressing critical issues such as veteran suicide.
