Joseph Claros, Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics at the Nevada Army National Guard, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Military for dedication, achievements and leadership in Military Logistics.
Mr. Claros’s distinguished career spans nearly three decades, marked by progressive leadership roles in both the military and civilian sectors. Since 2023, he has served as a deputy chief of staff for logistics with the Nevada Army National Guard, where he oversees day-to-day policy making and regulatory requirements for the U.S. Army’s logistics field and sustainment enterprise. In this capacity, Mr. Claros manages the maintenance of U.S. Army vehicles and property accountability within formations under the Nevada Army National Guard, directing a workforce of approximately 110 employees across Las Vegas and Northern Nevada. He is also responsible for managing shop workloads and ensuring expertise in mechanics throughout the organization.
In 2024, Mr. Claros assumed the additional role of brigade commander for the 17th Sustainment Brigade, a position in which he is particularly proud to serve. Under his command, the brigade was deployed to the Middle East in 2025, where he supported all logistics requirements in a joint operational environment to aid warfighters in the region. Mr. Claros’s leadership has been instrumental in ensuring mission success and operational readiness.
Mr. Claros’s tenure with the Nevada Army National Guard began in 2007 as an officer based in Las Vegas. He has held several key positions within the organization. His earlier military experience included serving as an enlisted soldier in the Washington Army National Guard from 1998 to 2002 while attending Washington State University, followed by service as an Army officer between 2003 and 2005. Mr. Claros also served as a project engineer with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in South Korea from 2013 to 2015, as a supervisory logistics management specialist between 2019 and 2021, and as deputy chief of staff for logistics from 2021 to 2024.
In parallel with his military service, Mr. Claros built a robust civilian career. From 2015 to 2019, he worked as a production supervisor at Nestlé, where he honed his skills in operations management and team leadership. Before that, he served as an on-site account manager for Hilti Group in the Las Vegas metropolitan area between 2007 and 2008 and as an operations officer and supervisor for United Airlines in both Denver, Colorado, and Las Vegas from 2006 to 2007.
Mr. Claros’s academic achievements have provided a strong foundation for his professional accomplishments. His educational journey began with a bachelor’s degree in communications from Washington State University in 2002, which laid the groundwork for his effective communication skills, a hallmark of his leadership style. Subsequently, Mr. Claros earned a Master of Business Administration in management at North Central University in 2017, further enhancing his expertise in organizational leadership and decision-making. In 2023, Mr. Claros earned a master’s degree in strategic studies from the U.S. Air Force Air War College, equipping him with advanced knowledge in military strategy and leadership. In addition to his degrees, Mr. Claros completed department distance education coursework at the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College between 2017 and 2020, further refining his strategic planning abilities.
Throughout his career, Mr. Claros has maintained active involvement with professional organizations, such as the 1st Cavalry Division Association since 2000, reflecting his ongoing commitment to military excellence and camaraderie. Beyond his professional commitments, he is civically engaged as a donor to the Washington State University Alumni Association and is a member of the Studebaker Club.
Mr. Claros’s exemplary service has been recognized with several prestigious awards, including two Bronze Star Medals from the U.S. Army in 2005 and 2016. He also received a Legion of Merit in 2025. Mr. Claros attributes his success to several defining qualities, including collaboration, optimism, deliberate yet decisive action under pressure and an authentic commitment to team building. He is also known for inspiring those around him and making well-reasoned decisions even under tight deadlines. Moreover, Mr. Claros credits much of his achievement to family support.
Looking toward future opportunities, Mr. Claros intends to continue serving with the Nevada Army National Guard while aspiring to achieve higher ranks within its leadership structure. He also plans to complete a book on leadership that will share insights gained throughout his life’s journey, furthering his commitment to inspiring others through example and mentorship.
