Walt R. Korb, Commander and Quartermaster at Zwolle-Ebarb VFW Post 5187, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Military for dedication, achievements, and leadership in nonprofit service to veterans.

Since 2019, Mr. Korb has served the Zwolle-Ebarb VFW Post 5187 as a commander and quartermaster. Prior to this position, he served with the United States Army from 1973 to 1996. He began his military service as a motor pool clerk, rising to the rank of a logistics officer and later a chief foreign area officer. In addition, for one year, Mr. Korb was an outfit engineer with the United States National Guard. Alongside his military service and work with the Veterans of Foreign Wars, he worked for a construction company.

In his position with the Zwolle-Ebarb VFW Post 5187, Mr. Korb is involved in several community service programs. These programs include supporting the Zwolle Tamale Fiesta, delivering meals to health care workers, and raising money for the construction of a state historical landmark to honor four brothers from his town who were killed in World War II. Mr. Korb’s service in the Army included three tours in Germany, a tour in Somalia, and multiple tours in the United States. He was enlisted for 14 years and commissioned for nine.

For his accomplishments, Mr. Korb was recognized with a Spirit of America Award from the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. He is a two-time recipient of the Meritorious Service Medal in 1996 and 1987, alongside numerous further honors during his military service. In his spare time, Mr. Korb enjoys woodworking, fishing, target shooting, traveling and spending time with his grandsons. In the coming years, he plans to continue serving in his post with the VFW and looks forward to becoming a district commander.
