Title: Chief Warrant Officer 4
Company: United States Army
Location: Arvada, Colorado, United States
John Payne, Chief Warrant Officer at United States Army, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Military for dedication, achievements, and leadership in detecting weapons of mass destruction.
For over two decades, Mr. Payne served his country in the United States Army, attaining the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4. Warrant officers serve in specific positions which require greater longevity than the billet duration of commanders and other staff officers. The duration of these assignments results in increased technical expertise, as well as increased leadership and management skills.
Mr. Payne enlisted in 1963 and initially worked in construction, but high test scores led him to officer training school. He worked in border patrol along the Berlin Wall and in several other locations throughout the world purging guided missiles. In what he considers a career highlight, he was selected for a 12-member team in 1988 that was sent to cities and towns in Russia to ensure missiles and weapons were being destroyed.
During his career, Mr. Payne was awarded an Expert Infantry badge, five Meritorious Service medals, two Army Commendation medals, one Army Achievement medal and one Joint Services Achievement medal. Throughout his military career he took classes at the University of Maryland, Athens State University in Alabama and Cameron University in Oklahoma.
Following his military career, Mr. Payne worked in the Department of Public Health and Environment for the State of Colorado in their Engineering Section from 1995 to 2013. He attributes his success to always being in a position where he could use his intellect and abilities to make a difference. In the coming years, Mr. Payne is hoping to do some traveling with his wife Alice.
