Before her entrepreneurial endeavors, Ms. Vaughn served as a contracting officer at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, with the U.S. Air Force from 1988 to 2011. In this role, she was responsible for negotiating contracts for essential services and supplies that supported base operations. She collaborated closely with local contractors to ensure adherence to government regulations and standards, managed contract performance and addressed disputes throughout the contract lifecycle. Early influences, including her grandfather, a physician, and other family members dedicated to education, initially inspired Ms. Vaughn to pursue her passion for biology and teaching. After her studies, she began sharing her love for music by teaching violin and flute. During six months away from government service, Ms. Vaughn also worked as a substitute teacher, including three months with special education students.
Possessing a rich educational background, Ms. Vaughn’s academic journey began at Langston University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree. She later completed a Master of Arts at Webster University. The strong educational foundation provided by her family had a profound impact on her pursuit of higher learning and professional success.
Ms. Vaughn’s professional affiliations include membership in the Air Force Association and the National Contracting Management Association. These endeavors reflect her ongoing commitment to excellence within her field.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Ms. Vaughn is actively engaged in civic life. She participates in the VIP Program for Senior Citizens through her local church. She also serves as a volunteer financial secretary for the Oklahoma City chapter of The Links Inc. Her dedication extends to supporting senior citizens and homeless youth through various nonprofit organizations, where she strives to create positive change.
Ms. Vaughn is also deeply committed to helping young people who age out of the Department of Human Services at age 18. Through collaboration with Pivot, a local agency providing housing and job training, she helps fulfill wish lists for essential items, such as clothing and food, while teaching life skills like cooking. Working alongside Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and The Links Inc., Ms. Vaughn also provides comfort through handmade blankets and quilts as these young adults transition into independent living.
