Jimmy T. Landrom Sr., Retired U.S. Marine at the U.S. Marine Corps, Retired Naval Officer at the U.S. Navy, and Retired U.S. State Trooper at Michigan State Police, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Military for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Military Service and Law Enforcement.
Mr. Landrom’s remarkable career reflects a steadfast commitment to public service, leadership and national security. Most recently, he contributed his expertise in government contracting with the U.S. Army Intelligence and Security Command from 2024 to 2025. In this capacity, Mr. Landrom supported intelligence operations and security initiatives, drawing on decades of military and analytical experience.
From 2023 to 2024, Mr. Landrom served as a senior research analyst for the U.S. Department of Defense in the Hampton Roads, Virginia, metropolitan area. His work involved critical analysis and research supporting defense strategies and operational readiness. Between 2018 and 2021, Mr. Landrom excelled as a senior account delivery manager at Microsoft in Reston, Virginia. In this role, he managed client relationships and project delivery for major accounts, leveraging the leadership skills he had honed through years of military service. Mr. Landrom’s earlier tenure in law enforcement spanned from 1989 to 2005 as a state trooper with the Michigan State Police.
In addition to these roles, Mr. Landrom demonstrated a dedication to education as a substitute teacher for kindergarten through fifth grade at various schools. His commitment to youth development is further reflected in his ongoing mentorship and community outreach efforts.
Mr. Landrom’s military service was marked by exceptional achievement and longevity. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1982, serving until 1998 and attaining the rank of gunnery sergeant (E-7). At the age of 19, after receiving his security clearance, he reported to Camp David on July 7, 1983, joining the elite Yankee White Marines, now known as the Camp David Marines, responsible for protecting the president. For over 30 months, Mr. Landrom provided security for President Ronald Reagan, the first lady, Nancy Reagan, and visiting dignitaries. This prestigious assignment earned him the Presidential Service Badge, an honor that has opened many doors throughout his life and remains a source of pride.
Transitioning to the U.S. Navy Reserve in 1998 as a naval special duty officer focused on intelligence, Mr. Landrom dedicated nearly 25 years to maritime service. The events of September 11, 2001, significantly shaped his trajectory. He was recalled to active duty and remained in that status until late 2018. His assignments included service with the U.S. Northern Command and representation of General Anthony Cucolo during combat operations in Iraq. He was also assigned to U.S. Army Headquarters in Qatar as part of the receiving, staging and onward integration team and undertook a special assignment representing the U.S. Navy’s Fifth Fleet in Bahrain from 2006 to 2008. Notably, he also spent time in the Persian Gulf and served as the department head for policy and strategy under Captain Wayne Porter, who has spoken highly of his performance and professionalism in this role.
From 2009 to 2010, Mr. Landrom served as an officer in charge of Joint Task Force Detention Operations at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. In 2010, he was assigned to the Pentagon to work on declassifying information. That same year, following the Bradley Manning security breach, he was handpicked for a review team tasked with evaluating over 720,000 classified documents released to Julian Assange. Over his career, Mr. Landrom completed three combat tours, including one in Iraq and two in Afghanistan.
Mr. Landrom earned an Associate of Arts in telecommunications technology from Grand Rapids Junior College, now Grand Rapids Community College, in 1987, a Bachelor of Science in applied technology from Eastern Michigan University in 1996, a Master of Arts in educational leadership and professional development from Western Michigan University in 2001, and a diploma (JPME Phase I) in international strategic studies from the U.S. Naval War College in 2015. In addition to his formal education, he has earned numerous credentials to support his career, including certifications in agile foundations and executive leadership, as well as designations as a trained domestic violence investigator and change practitioner.
Throughout his career, Mr. Landrom has maintained active membership in several industry-related and civic organizations, including the Association of the United States Navy, the American Legion Post 290, the Hampton Roads Committee of 200+ Men Inc., the Reserve Officers Association, and the March of Dimes, serving as a sustaining support board member.
During his tenure as a state trooper, Mr. Landrom was named Police Officer of the Year by the Southwestern Michigan Urban League in 1996 and subsequently named as runner-up for Trooper of the Year in 1997. He also received recognition as one of the Outstanding Young Men of America in 1995. In light of his military service, Mr. Landrom was recognized by both the Commandant of the Marine Corps and President Joe Biden. In July 2023, the summer after his retirement, he was honored as the official parade review officer at Marine Corps Recruit Depot.
Looking ahead, Mr. Landrom is committed to mentoring the youth, helping them develop critical thinking skills, problem-solving abilities and sound judgment so they may become responsible citizens capable of making positive contributions within their communities. His legacy is defined by more than four decades dedicated to serving others, whether safeguarding national interests, mentoring youth or advancing public welfare, earning him recognition among leaders who have made significant impacts in society.
