With decades of experience to his credit, Mr. Atkins has built an esteemed career marked by significant contributions to safety and health management, both in the military and civilian sectors. As the chief of safety and occupational health for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, he has been instrumental in implementing a comprehensive safety management system that addresses the unique challenges faced by various commands within the U.S. Army. His leadership in this role has set a precedent for effective policy-making and collaboration, ensuring that subsequent decisions have been grounded in real-world challenges.

Prior to his present position, Mr. Atkins served as the chief technology officer at Renaissance Assets, where he focused on innovative projects aimed at making a significant impact on humanity. His work included groundbreaking initiatives such as neuromodulation for Alzheimer’s disease and 3D bioprinting for individualized cancer treatment. These notable pursuits reflect his commitment to advancing health care solutions that prioritize patient-specific needs.

Mr. Atkins’s storied career also includes notable roles such as the director for safety at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and both deputy commander and director of safety for the Army Air Operations Group at Joint Forces Headquarters in Washington, D.C. In these posts, he emphasized the importance of communication and collaboration, recognizing that teamwork often yields better results than isolated efforts. His proactive approach led to significant improvements in safety policies and practices.

As the president of American Safety Solutions LLC in Newport News, Virginia, Mr. Atkins leveraged his extensive experience to build partnerships with major contractors, enhancing safety and health standards in construction. Additionally, he connected with trade schools to educate future tradespeople about the importance of safety in their work. His dedication to teaching and mentoring is further exemplified by his contributions as an adjunct professor at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Mr. Atkins’s military service as an aviator TW4 with the U.S. Army from 1979 to 2005 laid the foundation for his career in safety management. During this time, he also served as a military chief warrant officer, aviator and aviation safety officer, gaining valuable insights into the complexities of military operations and the critical role of safety.

To support his professional ambitions, Mr. Atkins pursued an education at Excelsior University, formerly known as Regents College, from which he earned a Bachelor of Arts in liberal arts, magna cum laude, in 1999. He subsequently graduated from East Texas A&M University, summa cum laude, with a Master of Science in industrial engineering and safety management in 2001. He also completed coursework at the Federal Executive Institute. Mr. Atkins holds certifications as a certified safety and health manager from the Institute of Safety & Health Management and an ANSI certificate from the American National Standards Institute.

Throughout his career, Mr. Atkins has been recognized with numerous accolades, including the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and several others reflecting his exemplary service and contributions to both military and civilian sectors. As a contributor to the American Journal of Preventative Medicine, he continues to share his expertise with a broader audience.

In his personal time, Mr. Atkins values his family deeply, drawing inspiration from his upbringing as the youngest of thirteen children in Belize City. He attributes much of his success to the balance provided by his stoic father and passionate mother, as well as the wisdom imparted by mentors throughout his life. With a focus on purpose over shareholder value, Mr. Atkins remains dedicated to making a meaningful impact through his work with Renaissance Assets and beyond.
