Jeanne E. Ferrer, commissioner at the Port of New Orleans and the New Orleans Public Belt, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Military for dedication, achievements, and leadership in transportation.

Ms. Ferrer, a leading authority in the transportation sector for two decades, is recognized for her contributions to the Port of New Orleans as one of seven commissioners overseeing both the port and the New Orleans Public Belt Railroad since 2023. Besides controlling port and railroad operations, she attends monthly meetings and manages various commercial deals with tenants and new customers. Additionally, since 2019, Ms. Ferrer has been a pilot for the Crescent River Port Pilot’s Association. As a maritime pilot, she is tasked with developing the nation’s largest economic engine and gateway through the Port of New Orleans and the New Orleans Public Belt.

Relying on her former experiences, Ms. Ferrer was appointed by the governor as the commissioner of the Saint Bernard Port Terminal and Harbor District from 2020 to 2022. She also held positions with Hornbeck Offshore as a master, Crowley Maritime as its chief mate, and Pacific Gulf Marine as a second mate and chief mate. Besides her civilian work, Ms. Ferrer has served her country in the United States Navy Reserve since 2006. That same year, she received a bachelor’s degree in logistics and intermodal transportation from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. She also holds a first-class pilot license and a master unlimited license from the U.S. Coast Guard.

In addition to Ms. Ferrer’s education, she has been active on the Lower Mississippi River navigation technical committee of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. She also enjoys giving back to worthy causes, such as Open Waters Louisiana and Women Offshore as a mentor, RiverWorks Discovery as an advisory board member, and The Propeller Club of the U.S. as a board member. Ms. Ferrer’s hard work and dedication have been recognized with a Wake Maker of the Year by Women Offshore in 2022, with recognition among the Top Women in Maritime by Marine Log in 2023, and among the New Orleans 500 by Biz New Orleans in 2024. In the coming years, she intends to continue advocating for the maritime industry and maintain her established legacy.
