Major John H. Nussbaum, MEng, MEM, EIT, civil engineer officer at United States Air Force, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Military for dedication, achievements, and leadership in engineering management.

With two and a half decades of experience, Mr. Nussbaum has established a successful career in the U.S. Air Force, specializing in technical leadership and engineering management. Since 2023, he has excelled as the FSRM section chief at the U.S. Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center Detachment 9 at Scott Air Force Base. His extensive career also includes roles such as transportation working capital fund program manager from 2021 to 2023, assistant public works officer for Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command in 2020 to 2021, and deputy division director for facility sustainment from 2019 to 2020. From 2019 to 2021, he served as operations flight commander, and from 2017 to 2019, he led the infrastructure and construction management branch.

Mr. Nussbaum’s roles also included graduate student with the United States Air Force from 2015 to 2017, readiness and emergency management flight commander from 2014 to 2015, operations engineering element commander from 2012 to 2014, and project development element chief in 2011. He served as a project manager from 2010 to 2012, a civil engineer officer since 2009, and previously held positions such as project programmer in 2009 to 2010, chief of infrastructure and construction management for the 7th Air Force in Korea, emergency management flight commander for the 100th Civil Engineer Squadron in England, and chief of program development for the 97th Civil Engineer Squadron.

Additionally, Mr. Nussbaum has diverse experience in the arts, serving as an actor, singer, and dancer with Dayton Playhouse from 2016 to 2017 and Playhouse South Theater Company from 2015 to 2017, as well as singer and dance captain with Edge of the Creek Productions in 2016. Additionally, his contributions to academia include co-authoring “Standardized Testing of Non-Standard Photovoltaic Pavement Surfaces” for the National Aerospace & Electronics Conference. He has also committed as a team manager and choreographer for Cheer Honolulu from 2019 to 2021 and customer service clerk for Animal Health Trust from 2014 to 2015. His ongoing roles include chapter and forum leader for the Modern Military Association of America since 2013, assistant event coordinator for the Christmas Stockings Project since 2006, and volunteer work with the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence and its local St. Louis chapter, the Fourth City Sisters. He co-founded the Save-Settle-Support Initiative and volunteers with the Abbey of the Glittering Arch, supporting Doorways Housing. Mr. Nussbaum is also a long-standing member of Sigma Iota Epsilon since 2017, the American Society of Civil Engineers since 2009, and the Society of American Military Engineers since 2009.

In light of his impressive undertakings, Maj. Nussbaum received a Meritorious Service Award from the U.S. Department of Defense in 2023, along with three Meritorious Service Awards and two Achievement Medals from the U.S. Air Force, as well as an Achievement Medal from the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command. His strong educational foundation includes a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 2009, a Master of Science in civil engineering from the Missouri University of Science and Technology in 2016, and a Master of Science in engineering management from the U.S. Air Force Institute of Technology 2017. He attributes his success to those who invested in him, and is deeply grateful to his squadron commanders, mentors, and friends who have supported and held him accountable, recognizing that having others keep you in check is crucial for growth. As he looks toward retirement, he remains dedicated to making a meaningful impact within the Air Force by supervising and supporting the airmen under his care. After retiring, he plans to reconnect with his creative passions, drawing from his background in architecture and design.
