Yonatan “Yogi” Gamaliel Hernandez, podcast host, and founder of Mil2Vet and MCTPS, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Military for dedication, achievements, and leadership in veteran services.
With over two and a half decades of experience, Mr. Hernandez has built a successful career in military and veteran services. Since 2023, he has been the podcast host and founder of Mil2Vet, a company focused on supporting military personnel transitioning to civilian life. He is also the owner of MCTPS and has served as a Navy chief petty officer in the U.S. Navy since 2002. His experience includes roles as executive recruiter at Elray Search from 2023 to 2024, business owner of Yogiway from 2014 to 2016, and team lead manager at Whole Foods Market from 2000 to 2001. He is actively involved in organizations such as the ABC of the United States in California, the California Alarm Association, a trade organization representing the security and alarm industry in California, the American Legion, a veterans’ organization that advocates for veterans’ rights and benefits, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the San Diego Veterans Coalition, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting veterans and their families in the San Diego area, and has also been a mentor with the Big Brother Big Sister Foundation since 2012.
In light of his impressive undertakings, Mr. Hernandez was nominated to be the face of military transition in San Diego, contributed to the development of the STARR program based on his transition experience, and received the Meritorious Volunteer Service Medal for Community Service in 2015, along with multiple military commendations. Reflecting on his journey as a first-generation immigrant, he joined the military to establish a legacy for his family and inspire them to pursue military careers. After serving in the Navy for 22 years, he transitioned to civilian life, facing additional challenges due to a medical transition. This experience motivated him and his co-host to create a podcast, sharing their experiences and those of others to support service members in their transitions. He takes great pride in successfully placing 160 out of 200 transitioning service members into jobs and attributes his success to active listening, seeking guidance from mentors, and learning from both juniors and seniors.
In the coming years, Mr. Hernandez aims to expand the reach of his podcast to support more service members, helping prevent them from becoming homeless or falling into negativity. The San Diego Veterans Coalition has developed the SCAR Program, inspired by his stories, to assist service members in their medical transition process. The SCAR Program, also known as the Strategic Combat Arms and Resilience Program, is tailored to support veterans, particularly those transitioning from military service to civilian life. It focuses on addressing the unique challenges faced by veterans, such as mental health issues, employment, and reintegration into civilian society. He hopes his legacy will continue to aid numerous service members in successfully transitioning and building connections across the United States and worldwide. When advising aspiring professionals, he emphasizes not being afraid to have conversations with those who can help. He stresses consistency and the willingness to fail, as failure often teaches more than success, revealing strengths, weaknesses, and where to focus energy for improvement or shifting direction.
