With 43 years of experience to his credit, Mr. McDonald has excelled as the founder and owner of McDonald Epic Enterprise LLC, operating in conjunction with the Department of the Army since 2016. He served in the United States Army as an Army commission officer on active duty from 1981 to 2005. He started as a field artillery officer and eventually became a civil affairs officer, aiding civilians on the battlefield and collaborating with local government, communities, NGOs, and other civilian organizations. He transitioned to the role of program manager from 2010 to 2016. He was active in the United States Marine Corps for three years.
Following his exit from the Army, Mr. McDonald pursued his dream of owning his own business that secures government contracts. He established himself as a business development manager at Makeen Tech. from 2005 to 2008. He continued his career as a senior military analyst at the National Defense University from 2008 to 2010. He has volunteered extensively and as an on-call reservist with the Federal Emergency Management Agency for six years.
Before embarking on his professional path, Mr. McDonald pursued an education at the University of Illinois Chicago where he earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and corrections. He concluded his studies at George Mason University, graduating with a master’s degree in public policy analysis. In light of his impressive undertakings, he has accrued several accolades throughout his career. He received the Army Commendation Medal and the Meritorious Service Medal from the United States Army.
Mr. McDonald attributes his success to being a critical thinker. During his service in Korea, his most significant accomplishment was managing a tragic incident involving two teenage civilian girls. He had to frequently engage with Korean civilian government officials to negotiate, understand, make restitution, and ensure that their promises were kept. There were protests and they were even kicked out of the peninsula as a result. Despite what happened, many Korean government officials wanted him to stay as his replacement did not understand the importance of being more civilian government-minded on this issue.
Mr. McDonald believed that there is no more honorable profession than serving in the military. During his time in the military, he met many fascinating people, including government officials and individuals from foreign governments. His military career was a remarkable experience that left a lasting impact on him. In the immediate future, he hopes to offer mentorship to the nation’s youth.
