Edward W. Timmons, State Director at Tarheel ChalleNGe Academy, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Military for dedication, achievements, and leadership in military operations and self-improvement.
With more than 40 years of experience to his credit, Mr. Timmons has excelled as the state director for the Tarheel ChalleNGe Academy in Salemburg, North Carolina since 2016. Prior to this appointment, he was active as the director of the aforementioned academy from 2013 to 2016. From 1981 to 2013, he served in the U.S. Army, advancing from an infantry and special operations officer with multiple combat deployments in over 19 countries to a colonel upon his military retirement. As a testament to his stellar efforts during his tenure in the U.S. Army, he has received numerous accolades over the years, including a Legion of Merit with Oak Leaf Cluster, a Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, a Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal with Six Oak Leaf Clusters and a Joint Service Achievement Medal, to name only a few. Recently, Mr. Timmons was presented with the Governor’s Award on two occasions and accepted a Badge of Excellence in 2021.
Inspired by his father, who was a military veteran who became an E7 sergeant and retired after 20 years of service, Mr. Timmons initially pursued a career in the field of law, earning a Bachelor of Arts in law and criminal justice at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. He subsequently concluded his academic studies at Webster University in 1988, graduating with a dual master’s degree in the administration of justice and management. He attributes his success to the influence and support of his parents, citing his father’s military experience and his mother’s strength as a single mother of six after his father’s untimely passing. Among the many highlights of his career, Mr. Timmons is incredibly proud of his commitment to helping others, including impacting the lives of countless people around the globe and helping troubled youth in changing their lives for the better. Looking toward the future, Mr. Timmons hopes to continue contributing to society and bettering the lives of others through the Tarheel ChalleNGe Academy.
