Major James T. Placke, corporate pilot at Contour Aviation, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Military for dedication, achievements, and leadership in military aviation.
Mr. Placke began his career of honorably service in the United States Air Force in 1981 as a student with the 33rd Tactical Reconnaissance Training Squadron at Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina, training to become a RF-4C Phantom II jet weapon systems officer (WSO). He subsequently operated as a plans officer for the 26th Tactical Reconnaissance Wing and a 38th Tactical Reconnaissance WSO in Zweibrucken Air Base in Germany from 1982 to 1986, a WSO instructor with the 15th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron at Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, Japan from 1986 to 1989, and the squadron and flight commander of the 15th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron at Taegu Air Base in the Republic of Korea between 1989 and 1990. Mr. Placke continued serving with the U.S. Air Force in a number of roles until 1998, reaching the rank of major before retiring. Since then, he has offered his exceptional skillset to the aviation industry, working with ExpressJet Airlines from 1999 to 2020. Since 2021, Mr. Placke has functioned as a corporate pilot with Contour Aviation.
Prior to beginning his vocational journey, Mr. Placke pursued a formal education at The University of Arizona, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in astronomy in 1980. After beginning his military career, he subsequently continued his studies at Boston University, achieving a Master of Science in mechanical engineering in 1986. In addition to his academic credentials, Mr. Placke holds a number of certifications, including as a flight instructor, an open water diver, and in organizational leadership. In honor of his dedication and exemplary performance in the field, he was previously named in the top 10% of his class as a navigator. In addition to his military service, he is also well regarded for his dedication to civic advocacy, having volunteered extensively within his local community. Mr. Placke attributes much of his success to his drive, leveraging any and all opportunities he has had to excel, and he looks forward to continuing his career as a pilot in the coming years.
