John M. “Mike” Holmes, Consultant and Retired Captain of the U.S. Navy, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Military for dedication, achievements, and leadership in military service.
Dedicated to continuing his family’s legacy of public service, Mr. Holmes served as a Navy Junior ROTC Unit department head while attending high school before enlisting in the U.S. Navy during the early 1960s. Over the course of the decade, he served in Vietnam from 1965 to 1967 and Taiwan in 1970. Upon his return home, Mr. Holmes offered his knowledge to various roles, such as working as a crew manager for Canadian Pacific Airlines, teaching at a local community college and taking on consultant work for a plethora of national and international projects. He retired from the U.S. Navy as a captain and surface line officer in 1995, but continues to hold membership with the Navy League, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Rotary Club.
Notably, Mr. Holmes holds numerous military honors, including a Legion of Merit, Bronze Star with Combat V, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with Gold Star and Navy Accommodation Medal. In addition, he was the recipient of the McCann Award for Community Service in 2014, and he was bestowed with a Meritorious Service Medal from the Sons of the American Revolution and a Paul Harris Fellow Award. Mr. Holmes attained a Bachelor of Arts in history from San Francisco State University, a Master of Arts in international relations and comparative politics from the Middlebury College of International Studies and a Master of Public Administration from Golden Gate University. In 1969, he studied Mandarin at the Defense Language Institute in Washington, D.C.
