Ana M. Cowan, Senior Human Resources Officer at U.S. Army, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Military for dedication, achievements, and leadership in human resources.

Specializing in operational management, Ms. Cowan has notably served as senior human resources officer for the U.S. Army in Fort Hood, Texas since 2017. In 2019, she also took on the role of executive officer of the human resources command for the Adjutant General Directorate in Fort Knox, Kentucky. Ms. Cowan chose to join the military in order to have a clean slate, as she has been a casino dealer and dealt with various dysfunctions in her life that she wanted to leave in the past. In 2008, she joined the 95th Adjutant General Battalion in Fort Sil, Oklahoma as an operations officer turned battery commander. She went on to join the Fifth Field Artillery 2nd Battalion as a human resources officer from 2010 to 2012 and battery commander from 2012 to 2013. Ms. Cowan also worked as a human resources officer for the 214 Fire Brigade in 2013 and for the 36th Engineer Brigade from 2015 to 2017.

Ms. Cowan received an Associate’s degree in criminal justice from the Atlantic Cape Community College in 1994 and a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice from Fayetteville State University in 2004. After 10 years, she achieved a Master’s degree in human resources management from Webster University in 2014 and continued with coursework at the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College. Finding great success in her career path, Ms. Cowan received a Governor’s Award for supporting troops in 2012. Additionally, she earned second and third place from the Global Bodybuilding Organization and was published in the Fayetteville State Observer for her weight loss transformation. A member of the Adjutant General Regimental Association and Gold Star Wives, Ms. Cowan attributes her success to the various leaders she has worked with and her service to the community. She is a past troop leader of the Girl Scouts and aide-de-camp at the Soldier Support Institute, as well as a mentor with Big Brother Big Sister. As her retirement from the military nears, Ms. Cowan plans to start her own small business and increase the scope of her volunteerism.
