George B. Forsythe, PhD, Independent Contractor at the Thayer Leader Development Group, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Military for dedication, achievements, and leadership in academic administration, consulting and military service.
Dr. George B. Forsythe is a consulting professional, retired academic administrator and former member of the United States Army who notably contributed 35 years to the military on active duty. Enlisting in 1970, he served as a platoon leader and executive officer of Company B for the Second Battalion of the Sixth Infantry in the Berlin Brigade in Germany, where he also served as a commander. Likewise, he was an executive officer of the First Battalion of the 23rd Infantry of the Second Infantry Division in Korea before retiring in 2005 as a brigadier general.
Now an independent contractor for the Thayer Leader Development Group in West Point, New York, since 2016, Dr. Forsythe previously served the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in myriad capacities, including as a professor of psychology and leadership until attaining emeritus status in 1996. During his tenure, he also established the Center for Leadership and Organizations Research, as well as served as the director of organizational studies, associate dean for academic affairs and vice dean of education. After departing from West Point, he served Westminster College as a professor, senior vice president and dean of faculty, where he was instrumental in the implementation of the Westminster 2020 strategic plan.
Alongside his professional pursuits, Dr. Forsythe is a reputable writer, having authored and co-authored more than 40 professional publications. He has also contributed articles to scholarly journals, 10 book chapters and a university-press book. Notably, he received three Best Paper Awards from the American Education Research Association. Dr. Forsythe holds a Bachelor of Science from the U.S. Military Academy, and a Master of Arts in college teaching and Doctor of Philosophy in education, both from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
